I didn't know until AFTER I changed the memory that I was supposed to take the battery out, but I had no problems. My Asus netbook booted up just fine and functioned fine. And though I have the extra memory, I really can't see a whole lot of difference between 1 gig and 2 gigs. Speed has not improved and things move along about like they did before the upgrade. I suppose if you use high memory aps, something like this would come in handy. On the other hand, with a very small computer, it's entirely possible that you won't need it. Because of delays in order, I used mine without the upgrade for several weeks. Since then, there's been no changed in speed or anything else.

A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

When I swapped it for the one in my daughters Eee PC900HA, it worked up to speed in hers, so I swapped her 2GB memory for mine.



Had I not been able to do this, I would have sent it back and rated it lower.

If anyone's curious if this memory module works in a late 2006 MacBook Pro (the one that predates Santa Rosa), it does. Crucial's site recommends part CT613255 for that computer, but it's easier/faster/cheaper to order from Amazon. I'd guess they're the same memory, with a special part number for Apple products, and Amazon only stocks the generic form.
